Captain America Starring Dick Purcell:
B-Movie supporting star of Warner Bros. action flicks during the 1930’s & 1940’s who juggled his career playing heroes & villains in films such as “Tough Kid” (1938), “Heroes In Blue” (1939), “Irish Luck” (1939) & “King Of The Zombies” (1941). Dick, however, is best remembered for putting on a super hero costume and starring as Republic’s “Captain America” (1944) in the hugely popular 15 chapter Saturday matinee serial. Sadly, the Marvel Comics super hero, “Captain America” was to be one of Dick’s last roles as he suffered a heart attack on the 10th of April 1944, shortly after playing a round of golf.

W.C. Fields is at his best as Egbert Souse, henpecked husband and layabout, who inadvertently foils bank robbers, becomes the new guard, and still manages to slip off to the Black Pussycat Cafe. King Of The Zombies(1941) VHS

Interesting Monogram mystery with Dick Purcell as a crusading D.A. prosecuting a deaf-mute do-gooder for murder. After the man is acquitted, Purcell quits his post and tries to get the goods on the real culprit, leading to all sorts of surprises. Joan Woodbury, John Hamilton, Mantan Moreland co-star. 60 min.
