James Dean’s Early TV Appearances :

Tales Of Tomorrow, Vol. 3 [VHS] VHS
Here are three more great TV "Tales," including "The Window" (aka "Lost Planet") with Rod Steiger, in which the show is interrupted by a ghost image of a man plotting to kill his wife; "The Evil Within," about a woman who takes a serum her scientist husband developed that brings out her evil side, features James Dean and Rod Steiger; and "Youth on Tap" features Robert Alda in a tale of a man who sells some of his blood for $1,000, unaware of the consequences. 90 min.

Studio One: Sentence Of Death (1953)/The Night America Trembled (1958) [VHS] VHS
In one of his final dramatic TV appearances before becoming a big screen legend, James Dean appears with Gene Lyons and Betsy Palmer in "Sentence of Death," a story of a deadly drug store robbery and a young man in the wrong place at the wrong time. Then, Orson Welles' infamous 1938 "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast is re-enacted by a cast that includes Warren Beatty, Vincent Gardenia, Dennis Hopper, Warren Oates and narrator Edward R. Murrow. 130 min.

Here's a truly rare find: James Dean in an early TV appearance, playing John the Baptist! This inspirational drama is about a platoon commander who uses a Biblical allegory to get his troops to take a hill. Leif Erickson, Gene Lockhart, Roddy McDowall also star. 53 min.

Abraham Lincoln [VHS](1952) VHS
Robert Pastene stars as Lincoln in this TV biodrama from "Westinghouse Studio One" covering the years from his election in 1860 to his assassination five years later. The highlight, though, is a scene featuring 21-year-old James Dean as a soldier sentenced to die for dereliction of duty. 60 min.

A Long Time Till Dawn [VHS](1953) VHS
Originally broadcast on "Kraft TV Theatre," this drama features James Dean in a story of an ex-con who tries to turn his life around now that he's out of prison. With Robert Simon, Naomi Riordan. 53 min.
