The Adventures Of Superboy (1961) Starring Johnny Rockwell as Superboy: After the death of TV’s Superman, George Reeves, young Johnny Rockwell had the distinction of becoming the first actor to portray the boy of steel, Superboy, when he was given the starring role in the pilot TV episode for “The Adventures Of Superboy” (1961). Sadly, the pilot episode, which became known over the years as “The Lost Pilot” has remained to this day unaired on television.
Johnny Rockwell, who played Smallville high school student Clark Kent (aka Superboy) had an uncanny resemblance to a young George Reeves. He was a good choice for the role but unfortunately this pilot episode remained his only appearance on TV or film. It is interesting to note that Johnny’s Superboy suit (as you can see from the picture at right) was almost a replica of the one worn by George Reeves.
Superboy’s love interest, Lana Lang, was played by Bunny Henning whose only other credits include a small role on the popular TV show “Petticoat Junction” (1966) and an uncredited appearance in the Walt Disney film “The Gnome-Mobile” (1967).
